Ruwan Kalpage, the assistant coach of Bangladesh, has been sacked by
the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after he failed to report to work by
August 16. Kalpage had decided to leave the country after the Dhaka
attacks that took place at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan Thana on July
1 and monitor the situation from Sri Lanka.
"We had sent him a
letter asking him to return to work by August 16, but he didn't respond
to us. So the BCB has terminated his contract," Jalal Yunus,
Bangladesh's Media committee chairman, was quoted as saying by
ESPNcricinfo on Friday (August 19).
Chandika Hathurusingha, the
head coach, Richard Halsall and Mario Villavarayan, who all reported to
work this month, have been provided the required security cover.
Earlier,
Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the BCB's Chief Executive Officer, had also noted
that a deadline of August 16 was given to Kalpage, but the former Sri
Lankan all-rounder hadn't contacted the board.
Kalpage was on a
two-year contract and had been given an extension to work with the
Bangladesh unit until the 2019 50-over World Cup.
