Afghanistan will travel to Bangladesh for a three-match One-Day
International series in September, the cricket boards of the two
countries confirmed on Sunday (August 28). The tour with games scheduled
for September 25, 28 and October 1 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium
will see the associate nation play a bilateral series against a
non-Zimbabwe full-member side for the first time.
Afghanistan's
growing stature as a limited-overs is reflective of their recent
performances against Zimbabwe. In 2015, they beat the African nation in
Zimbabwe before pipping them in a series in Sharjah. They have, however,
played Bangladesh only twice in the format. They beat a Mushfiqur
Rahim-led Bangladesh at Fatullah during the 2014 Asia Cup before
finishing second best in their 2015 World Cup encounter at the Manuka
Oval in Canberra.
"We are looking forward to some
entertaining cricket," Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Nasimullah
Danish said. "We are in close discussion with ICC Full Members. It's
always good for our team development to test ourselves in different
conditions, and there's no better place than Bangladesh to do that."
