Mohammad
Hafeez, Pakistan's opener, will miss the remainder of the England tour
due to a calf injury that he sustained before the second One-Day
International (ODI) played at Lord's on Saturday (August 27).
Hafeez,
who didn't play the second ODI due to his niggling calf problem, has
suffered a minor strain in his left calf. However, the all-rounder is
expected to continue his rehabilitation in England but won't be staying
with the squad.
Hafeez was under pressure to perform after
compiling just 102 runs over six innings in the four-match Test series
and was dropped for the crucial final Test at The Oval. He also was
dismissed cheaply for 11 in the first ODI in Southampton.
Mohammad
Irfan, the 32-year-old fast bowler, has been drafted into the set-up in
Hafeez's place. The tall fast bowler, known for extracting extra
bounce, last played for Pakistan in the World T20 2016.
Incidentally,
Irfan had lost out to Umar Gul in the original limited-overs squad. He
is expected to arrive in England before the third ODI in Nottingham on
Tuesday (August 30).
Hafeez asked to undergo bowling assessment test
Hafeez
has also been asked to undergo an assessment test on his bowling action
ahead of the Pakistan tour of Wes tINdies
dies. He completed his 12-month
ban imposed on him by the International Cricket Council last month.
"A
senior PCB official has conveyed to Hafeez that he has to take the
bowling test as his utility to the team is necessary as an allrounder in
all three formats of the game," a source close to the team said.
"Hafeez has been told not to delay the bowling assessment anymore as the
long-term interests of Pakistan cricket have to be taken into
consideration first and he should take the test before the T20 series
against the West Indies before September 23rd."
Hafeez has been working with Carl Crowe in the United Kingdom to correct his bowling action.
