Gillespie to end five-year stint with Yorkshire

Jason Gillespie, the Yorkshire head coach, will end his association with the county club at the end of the 2016 domestic season and return back to his native, Australia.

The former Australian speedster took up the job in November 2011 and since then, he has taken Yorkshire from the second division to the first and went on to win it in consecutive seasons (2014 and 2015). They are all set to win it for the third successive season after their win against Nottinghamshire last week.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Jason," read a club statement on Monday (August 29). "The focus will now be very much on the remaining four County Championship fixtures, beginning with Wednesday's trip to the Ageas Bowl to face Hampshire, and on securing the first Championship treble seen at Headingley since the 1960s."

There were signs that the decision would come sooner as Gillespie took up the head coach's role with Big Bash franchise Adelaide Strikers and his wife and four children had moved back to Australia recently.

Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire's director of cricket, is in no hurry to hunt for Gillespie's replacement. He is expected to wait until the end of the season before beginning the search.
