David Willey has been ruled out of the five-match One-Day
International series against Pakistan following a hand injury sustained
during the Natwest T20 Blast Finals Day, the England and Wales Cricket
Board said in a statement on Sunday (August 21). Jake Ball will replace
the pacer in the England squad now.
The Yorkshire seamer was hit
while trying to field the ball from Mark Stoneman off his own bowling
during the semifinal clash against Durham. "An X-ray, on Sunday, has not
excluded a significant injury," ECB said in a release. "The 26-year-old
will have a further scan and be reviewed by a consultant on Monday. He
has been withdrawn from England's ODI squad until a clear diagnosis has
been established."
Willey has played 18 ODIs and 11 Twenty20
Internationals for England, picking up 29 and 18 wickets respectively.
Ball, on the other hand, has earned a surprise call-up in the
limited-overs squad. He made his Test debut against Pakistan at Lord's
last month before he was released from the squad.
The two teams will take on each other in the first match at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on August 24.
