Thisara Perera, the Sri Lanka cricket team all-rounder, was fined 15
percent of his match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council
(ICC) Code of Conduct during the second One Day International (ODI) in
Colombo on Wednesday (august 24). Meanwhile, Australia pacer Mitchell
Starc received an official reprimand in a separate incident, which also
happened during Sri Lanka's series-levelling 82-run win at the
R.Premadasa Stadium.
Perera's reaction after dismissing
David Warner was found to be in breach of Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code
of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to
"using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could
provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman".
Starc
was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1, which deals with "conduct
that is contrary to the spirit of the game." The left-arm pacer, who had
completed his over, threw the ball in the direction of Dinesh Chandimal
at the striker's end although the batsman did not make any attempt to
take a run.
On-field umpires Michael Gough and
Raveendra Wimalasiri, third umpire Aleem Dar and fourth umpire Ranmore
Martinesz brought up the charges. Both Perera and Starc admitted the
offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Javagal
Srinath.
