Stokes, Wood return to England's T20I squad

England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named all-rounder Ben Stokes and fast bowler Mark Wood in the Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the one-off fixture against Pakistan in Old Trafford on September 7.

"It is excellent to see the progress we are making in white ball cricket across both formats. The T20 international against Pakistan will give the squad another opportunity to measure their development," National Selector James Whitaker said on Wednesday (August 31).

Wood has made a successful comeback in the 50-over format during the ongoing home series against Pakistan after a year's hiatus and has picked up five wickets in the three One-Day Internationals. Wood's only T20I appearance for England came back in June 2015. Stokes's last T20I outing came in the final of the World T20 2016 in India, where England finished runners-up.

"The squad has an exciting feel with exceptional talent throughout. We are delighted to welcome back Ben Stokes and Mark Wood into the squad. Both are world-class players and are an important part of our long-term plans to become the best side in the world," he added.
