Dale Steyn has reclaimed the top spot in ICC Test bowler's ranking
after his match figures of 8 for 99 against New Zealand in the second
Test in Centurion, the International Cricket Council announced on
Wednesday (August 31).
Steyn overtook James Anderson and
Ravichandran Ashwin to top the table after South Africa's 204-run win.
The South African pacer now holds the record for being No. 1 in rankings
for most number of weeks. He has held the top spot for 263 weeks,
followed by Muttiah Muralitharan, who held the top spot for 214 weeks.
There
has been no change in batsmen's ranking with Steve Smith firmly on top
with 906 points, followed by Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Hashim Amla and
Younis Khan.
Ashwin, who had a magnificent series with both bat
and ball in West Indies, leads the all-rounder's rankings with 429
points and holds a healthy 20-point lead over second-placed Shakib al
Hasan. Moeen Ali, Mitchell Starc and Vernon Philander are the other
players who complete the Top 5 all-rounders in Tests.
The 1-0 win
in the two-match series also pushed South Africa to the fifth spot in
the table. They climbed to 96 points and are followed by Sri Lanka and
New Zealand, who have 95 points each.
