ICC starts process to reinstate Cricket Association of Nepal

An International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation consisting of David Richardson, the ICC chief executive, and Imran Khwaja, the ICC chairman of Associate, met Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the prime minister of Nepal, on Sunday (September 4) to chart out a way to reinstate Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

The ICC had suspended CAN after the governing body felt there was too much government interference in the functioning of the board.

The various stakeholders of cricket in Nepal now need to review and, if needed, rewrite the constitution of CAN and then conduct elections to select various representatives.

Richardson termed the meeting as 'constructive'. "The meeting with the Honorable Prime Minister was very encouraging. Nepal is an important member with huge potential. It is important for us to work out a roadmap for its reinstatement," he said.

The ICC Board will now present a report in its meeting in Cape Town scheduled to be held in October.
