Chris Lynn and Aaron Finch are the latest to join the list of injured
Australians in their ongoing tour of Sri Lanka. Lynn has been ruled out
of the two-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series with a dislocated
shoulder, while Finch also won't participate in the T20I matches after
fracturing his index finger on Sunday (September 4) during the final One
Day International (ODI) in Pallekele, which the visitors won to seal a
4-1 finish.
Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that Matthew
Wade, earlier not part of the T20I squad, will remain with the team for
the remainder of the tour. George Bailey, who also didn't feature in the
initial squad, will stay for the first T20I. Finch, meanwhile, will
remain with the squad and assist with 12th man duties for the T20I
series, CA stated in a media release.
"Chris dislocated his left
shoulder whilst diving during a fielding drill at training today.
Consequently he will be unavailable for the remaining matches and
instead will return to Brisbane to undergo further investigation to
determine the full extent of the injury," David Beakley, the Australian
team physiotherapist, said. "Aaron was hit on the right index finger
when fielding a ball and subsequent x-rays have shown a fracture which
means he will not be available for the remaining two T20 International
matches."
A few days back, Shaun Marsh was ruled out of the tour
after picking up a finger injury, which extended Usman Khawaja's Sri
Lanka stay. This came on the back of regular skipper Steven Smith flying
back to Australia after the second ODI in order to get rest ahead of a
hectic season - a move that received criticism from several fronts.
The
first T20I will take place at the Pallekele International Cricket
Stadium on Tuesday (September 6) while Australia's tour of Sri Lanka
will come to an end after the completion of the second T20I at the R.
Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 9.
