Pakistan Cricket Board, on Thursday (September 1), named uncapped
fast bowler Amad Butt in a 13-man squad to face England in the one-off
Twenty20 International at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old Sialkot-born
pacer merited an inclusion in the side after a string of promising
performances (six wickets in three games) for the Lahore Whites in the
National T20 Cup.
The squad, skippered by first-time captain
Sarfraz Ahmed, also sees a recall for left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir
following his productive return in the Caribbean Premier League - 20
wickets from 12 games at 14.85 - while Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad
continue to be left-out on disciplinary grounds.
Pakistan Cricket
Board's (PCB) selection committee headed by Inzamam-ul-Haq have retained
senior members of the side, Shoaib Malik and Wahab Riaz, despite
lukewarm performances in the 50-over side. The 30-year-old hard-hitting
batsman Khalid Latif, who earned himself a call-up to the World T20
squad earlier this year following sprightly displays at the inaugural
Pakistan Super League, retained his place in the squad.
The squad
features as many as four spin-bowling all-rounders despite the absence
of Mohammad Hafeez, who is nursing a calf injury. The five-prong pace
bowling department will see Mohammad Amir joined by Riaz, Tanvir, Butt
and Mohammad Irfan.
The lone T20I will be played in Manchester on September 7, following the completion of the ongoing One-Day International series.
Squad:
Sarfraz Ahmed (c&wk), Khalid Latif, Sharjeel Khan, Shoaib Malik,
Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Mohammad Nawaz, Imad Wasim, Wahab Riaz,
Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Irfan, Sohail Tanvir, Amad Butt.
