A day after David Warner critisied the tracks prepared during
the One-Day International series in Sri Lanka, Aaron Finch came out in
support of his captain and termed the pitches as 'ordinary tracks'.
"It
has been a tough tour. We haven't been given good wickets in the ODI
series as well. They've laid out some ordinary wickets," Finch said on
Thursday (September 1). "It can be quite frustrating as a batsmen
because when you look over there's a beautiful batting track two strips
away.
"What could have been a really high scoring
game but they used the same one. It's home conditions so I guess they
can do that, so it was nice to win the series when there are a lot
things that are working against you."
Finch
acknowledged that these had been the toughest conditions he has
encountered in his career. "It has to be close," he said. "West Indies
wasn't easy but that had a lot to do with the weather and tacky wickets.
This has been as hard as I have seen it. They've been tough and have
been grinding wickets."
Finch cantered to a
19-ball 55 to help Australia seal the series with a six-wicket win and
seal the five-match series. Finch was 49 off 15 balls and needed a
single to equal the record for the fastest fifty in ODIs. However, he
missed the delivery and couldn't equal the feat.
Finch
revealed he wasn't aware of the record. "I had no idea," he said. I
think three Victorians have got it now. I was disappointed not to beat
Maxi (Glenn Maxwell). Back when he was a revolutionary of the game, he
was someone who played the game in a modern day way.
"I
had no idea what the record was until it came up on the big screen. My
job is to get the team off to a fast start with the new ball. These are
not the conditions where you consolidate with the new ball and then
build your innings. It's tough conditions out there."
