Chris Gayle won't be part of the West Indies squad for the
limited-overs series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates after
the burly left-hander made himself unavailable for selection for the
tour. The West Indies selectors name Evin Lewis, Alzarri Joseph and
Kraigg Brathwaite in the One-Day International (ODI) squad on Monday
(September 5).
The selectors also showed faith in
the abilities of Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell and named them in
the 15-member Twenty20 International (T20I) squad. There were two
changes in the West Indies side that took on India in the T20I series in
Florida with Gayle and Lendl Simmons (medical issues) missing out.
Jerome
Taylor, who retired from Test cricket ahead of the four-match series
against India, has returned to the T20I fold while the selection
committee continued to ignore Darren Sammy.
Ashley
Nurse found a berth in the 15-member ODI team as the selectors decided
to include three spinners in the squad. There was, however, no place for
Roston Chase in either of the squad despite his impressive returns in
the Test series against India.
West Indies are
scheduled to play three T20Is, three ODIs and three Tests in the series
against Pakistan starting from September 23. Sharjah, Dubai and Abu
Dhabi are the venues for the series.
