Hampshire vs Somerset
Somerset
suffered a humiliating 83-run loss at the hands of Hampshire in the
Natwest T20 Blast at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Friday (July 30).
Chasing 182 for victory, the visitors surrendered to the left-arm spin
of Liam Dawson, who picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in Twenty20
cricket. Ryan McLaren picked up two wickets upfront as Jim Allenby and
Ben Green were the only two batsmen to register double figures.
Hampshire's
decision to bat first worked in their favour as opener Tom Alsop almost
batted through the innings to score 85. He put on 83 for the first
wicket with Jake Goodwin before cameos from Shahid Afridi and Dawson
helped the hosts put up 181. Both teams failed to reach the
quarterfinals.
Brief scores: Hampshire 181/3 in 20 overs
(Tom Alsop 85, Jake Goodwin 32; Peter Trego 1-15) beat Somerset 98 in
15.2 overs (Jim Allenby 40, Liam Dawson 5-17, Ryan McLaren 2-14) by 83
runs.
Essex vs Glamorgan
Heavy
rains sealed Essex's spot in the quarterfinals as the solitary point
gained via the washout helped them secure the fourth spot in the group.
Glamorgan, who have already qualified, were able to finish second, as a
result of which they have ensured a home tie for their last-eight clash.
South
African batsman Colin Ingram earlier scored a ton to help Glamorgan
post 184 in their 20 overs at the County Ground in Chelmsford. Ingram
hit seven sixes and six fours in his 56-ball 107 and was dismissed in
the final over of the innings. Rain came down heavily before the home
side could begin their chase.
Brief scores: Glamorgan 184/5 in 20 overs (Colin Ingram 101, Jacques Rudolph 28; David Masters 1-16) vs Essex - No result
Gloucestershire vs Middlesex
Jack
Taylor's cameo helped Gloucestershire beat Middlesex in thrilling
fashion at the County Ground in Bristol to finish on top of their group.
They will now play their quarterfinal against Durham at home. Taylor
hit an unbeaten 44 off just 23 balls after the hosts had lost half their
side in the 15th over while chasing 157. Ian Cockbain contributed 42
off 37 balls to the chase early on.
The match failed to witness
even a single half-century as John Simpson's unbeaten 40 was the highest
score for the visitors. Both their openers scored 29 while Toby
Roland-Jones fetched 18 off just 9 deliveries to take their side past
the 150 mark. Benny Howell picked up three wickets for the hosts.
Brief scores: Middlesex
156/5 in 20 overs (John Simpson 40*; Benny Howell 3-18) lost to
Gloucestershire 162/6 in 19.3 overs (Jack Taylor 44*, Ian Cockbain 42;
Toby Roland-Jones 2-32) by four wickets.
Surrey vs Kent
Surrey
put up an impressive performance in front of their home crowd in London
to defeat Kent by 37 runs. The victory wasn't enough to take them to
the quarters as Essex edged them by one point. However, the night
belonged to Jason Roy as he smashed an unbeaten 120 off just 62
deliveries. He hit an astonishing 15 fours during the knock.
He
was well supported at the other end by Australia's Aaron Finch, who
contributed with a 51-ball 79. Chasing a daunting 213 for victory, the
visitors could only muster 175 on the board. Sam Northeast scored a
44-ball 59 while Chris Morris took two wickets for the hosts.
Brief scores:
Surrey 212/4 in 20 overs (Jason Roy 120*, Aaron Finch 79) beat Kent

Mark Stoneman and Calum MacLeod's 141-run second wicket partnership helpedDurham
beat Derbyshire by 13 runs and confirm their spot in the last-eight
stage of the competition. While Stoneman remained unbeaten on 82 until
the end, MacLeod was dismissed for 83 as the hosts put up 193 on the
board.
When Derbyshire lost half of their side with just 95
on the board, they were staring down at a heavy defeat before Shiv
Thakor and Neil Broom revived their innings. While Thakor hit 26 off
just 10 balls, Broom was dismissed for 68 in the final over as the
visitors finished at 180 for the loss of nine wickets.

Derbyshire 180/9 in 20 overs (Neil Broom 68; Scott Borthwick 3-33, Chris
Rushworth 2-27) by 13 runs.
Northamptonshire vs Yorkshire
Both
Northamptonshire and Yorkshire emerged happy with the outcome in the
County Ground in Northampton as the visitors won the hard-fought game by
14 runs. Defending 177 for a quarterfinal berth, Yorkshire bowlers did
well to restrict Northamptonshire to 163, which was enough for the hosts
to earn a home tie in the knockout stage against Middlesex.
Earlier,
Jack Leaning's astonishing 29-ball 64 that consisted of five sixes and a
patient half-century from Alex Rees, helped the visitors post 177. The
hosts had skipper Alex Wakely in the end to thank for as his 42-ball 64
helped them go past 159, a target they needed to stay home for the next
round. Yorkshire will now face Glamorgan away in their knockout clash.
Brief scores:
Yorkshire 177/5 in 20 overs (Jack Leaning 64, Alex Lees 59; Richard
Gleeson 2-15) beat Northamptonshire 163/7 in 20 overs (Alex Wakely 64,
Ben Duckett 41; Tim Bresnan 3-15) by 14 runs.
Lancashire vs Warwickshire
Lancashire
ended Warwickshire's last-eight hopes with a convincing win at Old
Trafford in Manchester on a track that became increasingly difficult for
batsmen to score freely. The hosts began in disastrous fashion and were
reduced to 44 for 4 by the 10th over but had Tom Moores and Jordan
Clark to thank for as the run rate finally went past six.
Chasing
125 for victory, the visitors could manage only 94 runs on the board
after losing eight wickets in the process. Opener Sam Hain made a
38-ball 28 as Saqib Mahmood took three wickets for just 12 runs. Arron
Lilly bagged a couple of wickets as well.
Brief scores:
Lancashire 124/5 in 20 overs (Tom Moores 39*, Jordan Clarke 31*; Josh
Poysden 2-21) beat Warwickshire 94/8 in 20 overs (Sam Hain 28; Saqib
Mahmood 3-15) by 30 runs.
Nottinghamshire vs Leicestershire
Blistering
half-centuries from Michael Lumb and Australian all-rounder Dan
Christian helped Nottinghamshire chase down a revised target of 141 in
the 11th over against Leicestershire. Frequent rain interruptions meant
the hosts had to chase down 141 in 14 overs. Lumb and Christian made
light work of the chase as the former remained unbeaten on 69. Christian
hit an unbeaten 54 off just 16 deliveries and had hit six sixes in the
cameo.
Earlier, Mark Cosgrove's half-century and Farhaan
Behardien's unbeaten 48 helped the visitors post 170 on the board in 18
overs. Samit Patel, Luke Fletcher, Imran Tahir and Steven Mullaney
picked up a wicket each for the hosts. The win now sets up a
quarterfinal clash against Essex for Nottinghamshire at home.
Brief scores: Leicestershire
170/4 in 18 overs (Mark Cosgrove 53, Farhaan Behardien 48*; Steven
Mullaney 1-14) lost to Nottinghamshire 146/2 in 10.3 overs (revised
target: 141 in 14 overs - Michael Lumb 69*, Daniel Christian 54*) by
eight wickets.
