ICC fines Pakistan for slow over rate in the final Test

The International Cricket Council on Monday (August 15), fined Pakistan for maintaining a slow over-rate in the final Test against England at the Oval. Match referee Richie Richardson imposed the sanction after the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Bruce Oxenford, third umpire Joel Wilson and fourth official Rob Bailey found the visiting side guilty.


Pakistan fell short of their target by one over after time allowances for wickets, drinks breaks, on-field treatments were considered. As a result, skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was fined 20% of his match fee while his teammates were handed a fine of 10% in accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel.

Misbah now runs a risk of receiving a suspension should Pakistan repeat the offence within the next 12 months.

Pakistan won the Test match by 10 wickets to level the series 2-2 and have retained their third spot in the rankings.
