Jesse Ryder, the New Zealand batsman, has cut short his Essex stint
and will be returning home after injuring his calf, the club confirmed
on Wednesday (August 24). Both parties have mutually agreed to end the
contract since Essex have only a few County Championship matches left in
the season.
Ryder spent three years with Essex having signed with
the county side in 2014. The move was perceived as a gamble back then
especially with the left-hander getting axed from the New Zealand squads
for disciplinary issues.
The 32-year-old scored more than 800
runs in the championship in his second season and also went on to pick
up three five-wicket hauls.
"Having been with the club for the
past three years, Ryder has made contributions throughout his time at
The E.C.G both on and off the pitch," the club said in a statement.
"Ryder
was an integral cog in Essex's team, specifically during the 2015
season, as he scored 1,359 runs and took 48 wickets in all formats. A
destructive batsman and wily bowler, Ryder will be fondly remembered by
the Essex faithful for his contributions throughout his three-year
stint."
