Chandika Hathurusingha has been retained as the head coach of
the Bangladesh cricket team till 2019, the national board announced on
Sunday (June 19). Ruwan Kalpage, the assistant coach, Richard Halsall,
the fielding coach, and Mario Villavarayan, the fitness and conditioning
coach, were also retained.
Hathurusingha will
also be part of the six-member selection committee that includes Khaled
Mahmud, the team manager. Bangladesh are going to revamp their
selection process going ahead. The team will first be picked by the a
three-member panel and then passed onto the six-member committee. The
final list will then go to Nazmul Hasan, the board president.
"We
have only legalised the current process," said Hassan. "The cricket
operations committee chairman will call the meeting with the selectors,
coach and manager. The coach will give his strategic input, if he has
any. The manager will give his and the captain's input."
The three-member panel will be headed by Faruque Ahmed and also includes Sajjad Ahmed, the former Bangladesh batsman.
