The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday (June 13) reportedly
expressed its disappointment over Mohammad Amir's appearance on a
television show just prior to Pakistan's departure for their tour of
England.
According to a report on PTI, a plan had been
worked out by the PCB and the team management for the left-armer's
limited media appearance on and before the tour to England. This is the
first time that Amir will be travelling to England after the spot-fixing
scandal broke out in 2010, wherein he, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif
were found guilty.
While a special case was filed by
the PCB to secure a visa for Amir for the tour to England, Butt and Asif
were not even considered for the tour as the English authorities had
made it clear that the duo won't be welcome in UK this year.
However,
despite being asked to remain low key and limit his media interactions,
a few days ago before departure, Amir went ahead and appeared in the
interview without informing the board, leaving the top officials of PCB
unhappy. The matter has been taken up seriously by the board and the
left-arm pacer has been asked to give an explanation for the same.
"This
has happened just few days after the top PCB officials including
chairman, Shahryar Khan and Najam Sethi had met with Amir in Lahore and
briefed him clearly on what was expected off him in England," a
well-placed source in the board was quoted as saying by PTI. "He was
also told clearly to improve his attitude and not antagonise his own
teammates."
Khan, on the other hand, made his
disappointment apparent over the non-selection of Fawad Alam for the
upcoming Test series and also didn't hold back while criticising some
players who were unhappy with families being allowed to travel with the
team to UK for only two weeks.
