Andre Russell (41 off 25) and Daniel Christian (53 not out)
collaborated to give Nottinghamshire a four-wicket win over
Worcestershire at the County Ground in Worcester in the Natwest Twenty20
Blast on Saturday (June 18). Set a target of 165, Nottinghamshire
polished off the chase in 18.5 overs.
Riki
Wessels (36) gave Nottinghamshire a brisk start but they kept losing
wickets in their reply. Brett D'Oliveira, in the 12th over, dismissed
Samit Patel and Greg Smith off consecutive deliveries to bring
Worcestershire right back in the game. With the scorecard reading 95 for
five, Russell walked in. The allrounder picked up an injury in the
first half of the game and hence was his movement was restricted.
However,
he launched a late onslaught on the bowlers to take the team close. He
was eventually dismissed by Moeen Ali in the 18th over but the team
needed just six runs then. Christian then took the team over the line
without any further damage.
Earlier, Tom
Kohler-Cadmore (30) and Moeen Ali (40) gave Worcestershire a solid start
and scored 54 run the Powerplay. Kohler-Cadmore fell first, bowled by
Steven Mullaney. Ali fell soon after to Mullaney, but Joe Clarke kept
the runs flowing with an unbeaten 48-ball 69. Though Clarke held one end
up, he received little or no support from the middle-order. It was a
one-man show that lifted Worcestershire above the 160-run mark.
Russell ended with figures of 2 for 22 while while Mullaney bagged two and gave away 28 runs.
Brief scores: Worcestershire164-5
in 20 overs (Moeen Ali 40; Andre Russell 2-22) lost to Nottinghamshire
167-6 in 18.5 overs (Daniel Christian 53*, Russell 41; Brett D'Oliveira
2-20) by four wickets.
