Deonarine picked up by Windward Islands; Cottrell moves to Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago bolstered their squad by picking Sheldon Cottrell, the left arm pacer, in the third round of the player draft for the 2016-17 West Indies Cricket Board Professional Cricket League on Friday (June 17). Defending champions Guyana picked five players in the draft.
Windward Islands, on the other hand, chose to pick Narsingh Deonarine, the left-hand batsman who has played 18 Tests and 31 One-Day Internationals for the West Indies, for the tournament. Deonarine played for Trinidad and Tobago last season and ended up as their second highest run-getter (494 runs) - only behind Kyle Hope (553). He last played for the West Indies in January 2015 in a one-day international against South Africa.
Cottrell was a part of the Jamaica squad last season and played only four games in which he picked seven wickets. He still managed to record his best bowling figures in a first-class game, when he picked up 5/38 against Leeward Islands.
WICB had made changes to their domestic structure in 2014 when they announced that there would be a draft system to pick players for the regional four-day tournament and the Nagico Super50. The six franchises would have a minimum of 15 players in their squad, out of which ten would be pre-selected from the Home Territory. The five others would be drafted from the player pool. At least two players should be chosen from outside the home territory. Each squad is allowed to have one international player (non-eligible West Indian player) in their side.
