Anil Kumble, the former India captain, Pravin Amre, the former India
batsman, Lalchand Rajput, the former India player, and Ravi Shastri, the
former India team director, made their presentations for the role of
India's next head coach on Tuesday (June 21).
Kumble, Amre and
Rajput made their presentations in Kolkata in front of Sourav Ganguly,
VVS Laxman and Sanjay Jagdale while Sachin Tendulkar joined in via video
conference. Shastri too joined in via video conference to present his
case.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) received 57
applications for the role of India's next coach and is expected to make
an announcement on June 24. The decision will be taken by Tendulkar,
Ganguly and Laxman, who are part of BCCI's cricket advisory committee,
while Jagdale has been appointed coordinator for the selection process.
Other
high profile candidates who missed out were Sandeep Patil, the current
India selector, and Venkatesh Prasad, the former India pacer. "I was not
invited for an interview," Patil told the Press Trust of India.
Apart
from naming the coach, the committee is also expected to validate the
suggestions put forward by the technical committee, including holding
Ranji Trophy games of the upcoming season at neutral venues. A meeting
of the Ranji Trophy coaches and captains is also scheduled for June 23.
