Ihsanullah Janat, the uncapped 18-year-old opening batsman, has
been named in Afghanistan's squad for the Intercontinental Cup game
against Netherlands in Voorburg. The country's cricket board has also
announced the One-Day International (ODI) squad for the series against
Scotland and Ireland.
Ihsanullah first came into
prominence when he scored a fifty and piloted Afghanistan to a shock
victory against Australia in the Under-19 World Cup in 2014. He
captained the national side in the Under-19 World Cup hosted by
Bangladesh earlier this year.
Javed Ahmadi and
Rahmat Shah are two surprise inclusions in the squad to face Scotland
and Ireland. Ahmadi hasn't partaken in ODIs since the 2015 World Cup,
while Rahmat last played for his country in the abridged version of the
game in July 2014. Incidentally, Nawroz Mangal, the elder brother of
Ihsanullah, has been left out.
Afghanistan are
slated to play in a two-match ODI series against Scotland, which
commences on July 4. They will then travel to Ireland to play a
five-match ODI series before taking on Netherlands in Voorburg in their
four-day Intercontinental Cup match, which starts on July 29.
Afghanistan are placed third on the points table.
