Amla, Tahir break records in big win

After a series of low-scoring affairs in the Guyana leg, the St Kitts leg of the tri-series saw better batsmanship from the three sides. South Africa stream rolled over West Indies in a must-win encounter by 139 runs thanks to Hashim Amla and Imran Tahir. The 182 run opening stand set the platform for the Proteas and Tahir's leg spinners nailed the game for them in the second half. A few records were touched upon the course of the match and here are some of them.
23- Hundreds scored by Hashim Amla in One-Day Internationals - the seventh most by anyone and second most for South Africa after AB de Villiers' 24 centuries.
132- Innings taken by Amla to reach the landmark of 23 hundreds in ODIs. He went past Virat Kohli's record of 157 innings as the fastest to 23 hundreds. He is now the fastest in terms of innings taken to reach the landmark of hundreds from seven to 23.
14- Innings taken by Amla to score 1000 runs against West Indies - the fastest by anyone to 1000 runs against a particular opposition in ODIs. The previous record was 15 innings by Viv Richards against England.
14 -Innings taken by Amla to score five hundreds against West Indies - the second fastest by anyone to score five centuries against a particular opposition in ODIs. Quinton de Kock's nine innings to five hundreds against India is the overall record.
3- Number of fifty-plus partnerships for the opening wicket between Amla and de Kock in 25 innings since January 2015, the partnerships reading 52, 239 and 182. In the 28 stands prior to it, they had ten fifty-plus partnerships including six above hundred.
3- Most hundreds for a visiting batsmen in ODIs in West Indies - Matthew Hayden (in 16 innings) and Amla (in nine innings) leading the list.
182- Opening wicket stand by Amla and de Kock, fourth highest first wicket stand in an ODI in West Indies. It is also the second highest for South Africa for any wicket in West Indies after 194 between Boeta Dippenaar and Jacques Kallis in Bridgetown in 2005.
343/4- The second-highest total posted against West Indies at home in an ODI after 356/4 by the same team in St George's in 2007. It is also the second-highest total in an ODI in West Indies outside the World Cup matches.
2- Consecutive fifty-plus partnerships for the opening wicket for West Indies. In the 15 ODIs prior to it, the opening pair failed to go past double digits on ten occasions.
105 -Wickets for Imran Tahir in ODIs - the first spinner from South Africa to hundred wickets. 58 ODIs to the hundred wickets is the fourth fastest overall and fastest for South Africa.
7 for 45- Best bowling figures for South Africa in ODIs eclipsing Kagiso Rabada's 6 for 16 last year. Overall it's the tenth time a bowler has taken seven or more wickets in an ODI.
7 for 45- Third best figures for a spinner in ODIs. Shahid Afridi (7 for 12 vs West Indies, Providence, 2013) and Muttiah Muralitharan (7 for 30 vs India, Sharjah, 2000) are the ones to better Tahir's 7 for 45.
9- Wickets taken by South African spinners in the match - the most by them in an ODI. The previous most was seven which they had done it on four separate occasions. It is also the first occasion of wrist spinners taking nine or more wickets in an innings in ODIs for any team.
2- Number of series outside World Cups which had more than one instance of a six-wicket haul. The only other series was Natwest tri-series in England in 2001 when Waqar Younis picked up 7 for 36 and 6 for 59 in consecutive games. Sunil Narine took 6 for 27 in the opening match of the series.
139- Losing margin for West Indies, their second biggest in a home ODI. The only other heavier defeat by runs was by 169 runs against Australia at the same venue in 2008.
