The players' draft for the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) was
chalked out on Saturday and it includes all the big names from the
state. Some of the notable names from other states who are registered
with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association to play the local league are
also part of the draft.
It includes two IPL stars and Mumbai
Indians players Hardik and Krunal Pandya, former India U-19 captain
Unmukt Chand and former India leggie Piyush Chawla.
"All the big
players who are registered with the TNCA are there in the draft," a
source close to the developments told TOI. The Tamil Nadu stars
-Ravichandran Ashwin, M Vijay, S Badrinath, Vijay Shankar, Dinesh
Karthik - are also part of the 951 players who have registered. "We are
extremely happy with the players' response for the tournament. About 180
of them are likely to get picked by the franchises and we want each
side to have the best possible squad so that the competition is intense
and the crowd gets to see quality cricket," added out the source.
The
draft was sent across to all the franchises on Saturday evening. "The
TNPL officials got together to frame the rules and players' list and we
have sent it across to the franchises so that the next stage of
discussion can begin in the coming days. The players will be picked by
the franchises on July 22," the source added.
The eight franchises
will be called for a meeting on Monday . "We want to ensure that
everyone concerned with the tournament is on the same page," the source
added. Tuti Patriots---the Thoothukudi franchise, the highest bidders,
will have the option of choosing the first pick during the players'
draft.
