'We finally have a pool of bowlers'

In the last phase of his Test career, MS Dhoni was hampered while touring abroad by the paucity of India's bowling resources. Not only was the attack inexperienced, the pacers lacked impact. Now that Dhoni is happily retired from Tests, he feels his successor Virat Kohli has a better pool to choose his resources from.

"The good thing is that we now have a pool of bowlers. It is something that we were trying to create for three years. There is competition. The more the competition, the better it is," the current limited-overs captain said on Wednesday while talking about the Indian squad in West Indies.

"It's good to see a pool of bowlers who can bowl quick and are ready for selection. We have bowlers with all areas covered. If you look at the ODI series against South Africa at home last year, we were struggling to get fit bowlers to play. Of course, we need to be very careful about injury management," Dhoni added.

The veteran of 90 Tests and 278 ODIs believes that it will all come down to how the spinners perform on the Caribbean pitches. "I think wickets will be slower in West Indies, but you never know. I think spinners will have a huge role to play," Dhoni said as he announced his collaboration with former Australian fast bowler's Craig McDermott's business project.
