The inaugural edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will be
kicking off on August 27 and it will continue till September 18. The
opening ceremony will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium ahead of
the first match.
The opening ceremony will be a starry affair and
the TNCA is in the process of finalising the details. The officials will
meet the broadcasters and the marketing team over the next few days to
decide on the details of the opening ceremony. The TNPL governing
council which met here on Monday (July 18) decided to push the players'
draft back by a week. "The draft was earlier scheduled to be held on
July 22 (Friday), but we will have it in the next week," added a member.
Earlier
on Monday, the TNPL officials had an hour-long discussion with all the
eight franchises. Some of the franchise owners suggested that they
wanted more time to prepare for the draft. "Some franchises want to go
through the players' list before taking a call on their choice of
players," the source said.
However, there were few franchises who
were fine with the earlier date. "Once we have the players on board, we
can start working on building the team, get the branding exercise
going," said one team representatives.
It was revealed that even
though BCCI had given a verbal go-ahead, they haven't yet officially
cleared the participation of outstation players registered with TNCA for
the TNPL. Some of the franchise owners, who were lining up players like
Hardik Pandya, Piyush Chawla hope that the clearance comes soon enough
for them to go ahead with their plans.
